Are you engaging with our weekly “trend alerts” on Facebook or Instagram? During our research, we were astonished that more than fifty design trends were projected for 2025. Notably, the “Trend Fatigue” concept has also emerged as a trend in its own right. Can anyone relate?
That’s why we believe another trend, Personalization, is rising to the forefront of all trends. Whether that includes color or pattern-drenching, minimalism or maximalism, rather than creating a magazine-worthy home, our focus seems to be increasingly on cultivating spaces we love to inhabit. We use colors, textures, and other design elements that make us happy.
I want a calm, comfortable, relaxing living room, but a whimsical office full of things I love that gives me peace and a sense of inspiration. That’s the best part of personalization: we craft a visual representation of our personality and design spaces we love to be in.
Here are some fun ways you might personalize your home.
Color is exploding in design. Whether you love pale pink or deep, moody blue, exotic jewel tones, or natural greens, there are countless ways to incorporate your favorite colors. When considering your design, you may study color to discover the emotions evoked by specific colors. Color-drenching is trending this year and is a fun way to utilize the colors you love in your home. You might want to start small with color by adding colorful pillows or artwork.
Nothing says visual extravagance like bold wallpaper. Wallpaper can reflect your personality and make you happy just by walking into a room. Artisan tiles are a gorgeous trend that are usually handmade and feature irregular edges in varied colors and patterns. Ceramic or porcelain tiles add character and visual interest to rooms.
Lighting has become one of the most important aspects of home design over the years and can completely change the aesthetics of a home. Statement lighting adds a dramatic flair or sophisticated touch to a room. Create the atmosphere you desire in a space by choosing the lighting that resonates with you.
This might be my favorite. I have an eclectic style and love vintage elements, retro design, and organic, biophilic decor. Take me back to the 1800s or the 1950s, and my soul seems to slow down. I read something once that said nostalgia profoundly impacts our brains, immediately taking us back in time and evoking a sense of well-being and joy. I have my grandmother's vintage dresser in my office. What takes you back in time and makes you smile? Add that to your home or favorite room.
What would your favorite room look like if it reflected more of your personality? Mine might resemble this beautiful nod to the 1950s by James B. Laughlin Residential Design below.
I heard years ago that incorporating décor that evokes happy memories for everyone in the home creates a space where your family loves to gather. Isn’t that our deepest desire? Much more than designing what others consider magazine-worthy.
As homeowners, creating spaces that reflect our styles and evoke joy is essential. We feel happiest when surrounded by items we find beautiful or that remind us of cherished memories. Whether it's your favorite color, a distinctive artwork collected on a memorable trip, or that stunning chandelier you've always wanted for your dining room, go for it. Incorporate elements into your home that bring you comfort and joy.
